ERA OF GOOD FEELINGS a Dirty Churches opera tells the story of a dramatic soprano encountering magical genies, dancing witches and larger than life cockroaches. Dirty Churches composer Jesse Gelaznik has combined his electronic textures and unique score with the hypnotic tones of H. Leon Harris’s multiple autoharps and 4-track samples. Heather Green uses poetic text to touch on nuanced emotional revelations in her dynamic libretto. Daniel Garcia wrote the interludes that reveal a dark humor about life, death, drinking and the end of the world, which were spoken by Samantha Lore. For the live performance art director Rachel Blackwell created living sculptures, which creep under a looming mix of existential terror and freak show whimsy. The ballet sections were performed and choreographed by Alexandra Jacob in collaboration with her partner Constantine Alexis. Dirty Churches premiered ERA OF GOOD FEELINGS in June of 2019 at La MaMa Galleria.
